I so remember when I was a little girl, my mother gathered my brother and me one afternoon to see a movie. This was not like going to see just any movie. It was special. We went to a special theater that was beautiful - it was not at a mall. We sat there dressed up waiting for the HUGE red curtain to open. It opened and the magic began...the magic of The Sound of Music. We were mesmerized...all the kids, the singing, the scenery, the fun. We left the movie happy and singing. I was asking my mom why we didn't have more brothers and sisters. I have no idea how many times I have seen The Sound of Music since then.
Okay...I am huge @andersoncooper fan and follow him on twitter. A tweet came through in summer about getting tickets to see his daytime show @andersonlive and I responded almost immediately. Several weeks pass and I receive an email that I indeed got tickets to the show. Once I found out, I invited my mother to join me and then booked the airline tickets pronto. I was so darn excited...NYC here we come!
The day arrives and we are in line for the show.
We were concerned as to whether or not we would actually make it in as there was a woman behind us saying that she goes to lots of show and doesn't always get in. She kept saying it over and over...I was getting a tad anxious. Well...we did make it in and were beyond delighted. Here we are in the holding area waiting.

Off we go...his show is taped at a CBS Studio and we passed this sign on our way. @CBSSunday Morning is a favorite of mine...so exciting and then 60 Minutes too...
We arrive to the new @andersonlive set - it is beautiful and is a buzz with energy. I love that he incorporated his mother's art as it adds such a personal touch and lovely warmth to the set.

We get ushered in and end up with absolutely stellar seats in the comfy benches in the front...happy, happy. We are told to turn off our phones and the comedian starts warming up the audience...she was FAB-U-LOUS! You could just feel the energy...it was happy, fun and full of life. She then announced whom was going to be on the show and I hear her say @sharktankabc...seriously? I was, of course, super excited being an entrepreneur. Then the Nealy's @ginaandpatneely were on and because of where we were seated, we were given a plate to taste what they made...may I just say, absolutely delicious.
The whole experience was such a thrill. Oh and did I say...@andersoncooper is A-DORE-ABLE! He has such a great way about him and is so warm and kind...and that laugh...LOVE it!
The show we were on airs today so if you get a chance tune in. For that matter, tune in everyday...I do! Here's a preview.
The show ends and it is time to leave...didn't really want to leave as it was such fun being there. BTW...I just have to share this photo of where we were seated - in the third bench in the middle section...how cool was that?! It was pretty darn cool...just saying.
Thank you to the @andersonlive team for treating my mom and me so well. We truly had the best time and can't wait to visit again.
Anyone that knows me, knows I love art, particularly modern and contemporary art. I came across this documentary a few years back, Herb & Dorothy, which is a remarkable story about a couple that were absolutely passionate about art and managed to build one of the world's most important collections of Minimalist and Conceptual art. What makes their story even more extraordinary is the fact that they amassed this collection while working modest jobs and living in a rent-controlled, one-bedroom apartment in Manhattan's Upper East Side. Dorothy was a librarian and Herb worked for the US Postal Service.
“Most of us go through the world, never seeing anything. Then you meet somebody like Herb and Dorothy, who have eyes that see.” —Richard Tuttle, artist
"Courted
by every major museum, the couple astounded the art world by
transferring their entire collection—worth several million dollars—to
the National Gallery of Art. As government workers themselves, they
liked the idea of sharing their prized pieces with the American people.
After weeks of packing, shippers carted away an astounding five
full-sized moving trucks of paintings, drawings and sculptures from the
tiny apartment. They wanted to share their collection with the public and
chose to transfer it to the National Gallery of Art in DC."
It
is a sweet, sweet story about their love for each other and their
passion and love for art. Add it to your Queue or get it off itunes. Here is a little peak into their story.
Aren't they so darn cute? Sadly, Herb went to glory last month.
First of all, I have a total weakness for stationary - not sure what that is about, but I have it. I also have tremendous affinity for creativity. Put stationary and creativity together and I get a tad giddy.
So...I just had to share this fabulous birth announcement with you. From the brown envelope, to the white label trimmed in red and blue with the "Special Delivery" stamp on it...
...to
the brown cording tying the little tag with all the particulars.
No detail was missed...love the Cleveland, OH stamp with the date, the "Weight of Package", "Size of Package", "The Proud Recipients". I say stupendous, well done, absolutely fabulous!
But best of all, here is their "Special Delivery". Could he be any more sweet?! Love the photo!
My friend's wife is the creative mastermind behind this and other lovely items that come in envelopes. I kept their holiday greeting from a few years back and put it on my refrigerator for the winter season. After I receive one of her creations, I carry it around and share it with people in my life. This one will be no different, but now, I get to also share it with all of you. I told my friend I think his wife has a budding-boutique business emerging.
I was at my local grocery store and this caught my eye...

The
photography was so beautiful on the cover, the texture of the paper was
thick, it was bound well and a quick flip through, I was excited to get
home to read it. I was actually rather surprised to find out it was complimentary.
Here Edible Communities
is The 2011 James Beard Foundation Publication of the Year Award which
"recognizes a publication that demonstrates fresh directions, worthy
ambitions, and a forward-looking approach to food journalism." I can see why as it is a treasure trove of information for foodies that is so beautifully written with absolutely stunning photography. Best of all, it is LOCALLY inspired...LOVE that! Their tag line is "Our Region, Our Stories, Our Food, Season by Season".
It is full of passion for all things food, that is for certain. Edible
lists all the Farmers Markets in your community, features food
artisans, restaurants, recipes and more, much, much more. See if your city
is one of the fortunate ones to be a part of the Edible Communities. I
know when traveling this will be a resource to know where to go, see
and taste the local flavor. Also, follow them on twitter: @ediblestories
Edible
Cleveland's Summer 2012...gorgeous!

On an aside, may I just say I am crazy
for french macaroons - more on that in the future.
Below is a bit about the publication via their website:
"The publications produced by the Edible Communities company are “locavores” with national appeal. They are locally grown and community based, like the foods, family farmers, growers, retailers, chefs, and food artisans they feature. The company’s unique publishing model addresses the most crucial trends in food journalism; the publications are rooted in distinct culinary regions throughout the United States and Canada, celebrating local, seasonal foods with the goal of transforming the way we shop, cook, and eat. Their underlying values speak to today’s spirit of shared responsibility: every person has the right to affordable, fresh, healthful food on a daily basis.
Edible Communities is more than a group of high-quality, regional print magazines with compelling storytelling and visual narratives. Through electronic and digital platforms—websites, social media, Edible Radio podcasts, and popular local events—its food journalism carries regional stories to national and global audiences. We believe that in years to come the collected work of these unique publications will serve as a valuable resource for exploring the impact of regional food and agriculture from a grassroots perspective.
At a time when journalists are reinventing traditional publications and embracing digital formats, the Journalism Committee of the James Beard Foundation is proud to recognize Edible Communities for this first-ever award. Edible Communities’ body of work reflects excellence in the ever-changing world of food journalism. Its publications inform and connect today’s food-savvy readers with local communities that stand for a healthful, flavorful, and sustainable food supply."
